Sacrifice was the last album for Wurzel with Motorhead and Lemmy tells in his autobiography, White Line Fever, that it was evident already during the recording that Wurzel was on his way out. He didnīt do much, he was just sitting with his guitar across his knees while the others were working and writing songs. Wurzel just did two solos, "Dogface Boy" and "Out of the Sun", and he had big problems to get them right. He quit the band a week and a half before they went out on tour in Europe. The first date of the tour was on 24th of April 1995.
"Sex And Death" was written in 10 minutes on the last day of rehearssal. For "Out Of The Sun" Lemmy and his guitar roadie added an extra piece of music when the others were not around so the lyrics would fit. On "Donīt Waste Your Time", they used a saxophone, played by Bill Bergman, and a piano, played by John Paroulo. Lemmy had written some of the lyrics for the title track before they went into the studio.
When the album was finished Motorhead still had no deal for release in the USA, but a few months later, when Wursel already had left the band, they got a deal with CMC. Sacrifice wasnīt therefore released in the USA until July and for the US edition Wurzel was therefore removed from the pictures, a decision made by their manager. The front cover with the skull with a dick instead of a tounge was also censored on the North American version.
