In 2009 Devils Jukebox initiated a re-issue of the 1991 album 1916 on vinyl. 150 copies included the alternative artwork with French flag, the rest did not include this artwork. This is how they described the release: "Limited Edition 150 numbered copies only, with bonus highgrade 12" x 12" Art print of alternate cover art where finally the French flag is included, EXCLUSIVE to Devils Jukebox/LAMF Ltd!, 180G Deluxe vinyl, pressed at Pallas, Europes best plant!. Remastered by sonic genius Ray Staff, from the original analogue tapes!!, thick Gatefold Sleeve with liner notes etc, Motorpeople, you can shake off the shackles of that cruddy old 1991 pressing of '1916' that has been embarassing your collection for so long. Did you know that the 1991 pressing was pressed from a DAT? Sonically, for a vinyl pressing, that was appalling behaviour! We wanted to rectify the situation by reissuing this great album as it SHOULD have been done in the first place, but we had no 'in' at Sony........ but we knew a label who did. A label we admire and respect for the amaaaaazing quality of their Jazz, Blues, Rock and Soul releases - 'Pure Pleasure'. So, a begging word in their ear, and they got the wheels rolling at Sony....... Pure Pleasure take such pride in their releases - they got Ray Staff (a golden-eared genius!!) to remaster the album from the ORIGINAL analogue tapes. They got it pressed at Europes' best plant - Pallas. They have housed it in a thick GATEFOLD sleeve, with liner notes by yours truly. It's a sonic work of art! And so to the icing on the cake. It's rankled me for 18 years that the cover of '1916' , the album that with it's epic title track finale tells one man's poignant story of the senseless bloodshed on the fields of France, showed flags from so many participating nations in the futile game of war, that said cover didn't include the French flag! We managed to get this rectified in the shape of 150 high-grade 12" x 12" art prints showing the alternate artwork".
