In the summer Lemmy had heart issues and also problems with his blood and the band had to cancell some of their summer festival shows.

In an August 2012 interview with Artisan News Service during the Rockstar Mayhem Festival, Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee revealed that the band had written a number of songs already for a followup to 2010's The Wörld Is Yours, but that the band were continuing to write. He then went on to say that the new album would be recorded and released in 2013. In an interview with Classic Rock Revisited, Lemmy was asked about the possibility of the album consisting of all covers. Lemmy said that it had been discussed and that "it would be fun to do". He further noted that if a covers album would be made, the band's varying musical tastes would ensure a diverse tracklisting.

Artwork for sleeve made by Terje Aspmo, a Norwegian born air-brush artist. He has previously made covers for The Phantom and his work has appeared on cars, motorcycles and goalie masks amongst other things. The booklet and the inner sleeves contained lyrics and sketches by Lemmy.

On the 10th of September Heartbreaker was announced to be the first single. The song was played on Classic Rock Radio a few days later and was available on Youtube.

Vinyl version had a gatefold sleeve and was available as black or marbled amber vinyl. Euopean cd versions were as digipack or jewel case. A special d2c (direct to consumer) package was available for order and Classic Rock did a special magazine with cd. In US a Best Buy version with DVD was available. In Mexico it was a jewel case version. In November a second version with DVD was released.
